A Portrait of Hope

I glanced up as I was hugging my sister and saying my goodbye. There it was, a stunning mural of a young, Fijian lady, painted across the top four stories of a building in Liverpool, Sydney.

I took a very quick snapshot and am surprised it came out as clearly as it did.

The subject, Adi Holmes, is studying Law and International Relations at University of Wollongong, whilst also juggling work

and coping with the responsibilities of being a mother of two.

Adi hopes, on completion of her studies, to become an advocate for human rights and in particular, the ‘Free West-Papua Movement.’ She has been involved with the group for years.

The mural is the work of Claire Foxton, alumna of the same university and a well-known artist, graphic designer and muralist. The portrait was completed in a little over a week.

Claire chose Adi as her subject, due primarily to her aspirations

and her tenacity, courage, enthusiasm and perseverance, in facing her challenges.

This post is a tribute to both ladies.
