Day 10 – A day of downs and ups

I couldn’t have scripted how the day would turn out if I tried. I woke up to the news that two members of the family were in hospital and a third could potentially have major health issues. Families from both sides rallied around to help and two other family members were keeping us posted on the respective situations.

Apart from medical tests and medication, it was a waiting game. Both of the members in hospital were in a lot of pain and the third member had an appointment with the GP. It was a worrying time.

Keenly aware that my blogposts are themed on ‘gratitude,’ I had to dig deep to find something to be grateful for. A decision to shelve the issue while we awaited more news, was, in my opinion, a better course of action and at times like these, it is also best to keep busy.

By late evening, both members were medicated but more tests were required. I dreaded hearing about the third member’s results but the GP instead, suggested seeing a Specialist.

I found lots to do to keep me occupied and busy but it wasn’t until I opened a pile of mail that I realised how much I needed to relax. There among the pile of letters was a normal-sized, bulky envelope and a large package, and surprise of all surprises, they were both addressed to me.

I opened the smaller envelope and discovered a second envelope with a beautiful pair of earrings wrapped in soft covering, from my sister-in-law and brother. My sister in law said she thought the earrings would look nice on me, when she spotted the earrings. Just seeing the gift lifted my spirit and I certainly needed my spirit lifted.

I then opened the large parcel and found a gift-wrapped, oblong package. I also began to wonder why the gifts were sent when it wasn’t even my birthday.

Nestled in the wrapping was an exquisitely carved wooden box made up of different pieces of wood and on opening the box, I found a fine-looking, wooden pen.

These gifts were no doubt posted a few days earlier, whereby, one in particular was posted from far north Queensland but both gifts arrived at a most opportune time.

To recap, the day started out dreadfully but by nightfall and the arrival of the unexpected gifts, the concerns and worries were cushioned to a certain extent.

I still marvel that there were angels thinking about me a few days earlier, without being aware that their thoughtfulness would bring extra-comfort.

This post is a few days late and I’m sure you can understand why. I will write a review of the last ten days of my gratitude posts tomorrow.

I would love to hear your comments.
